It finally took The Boogeyman to topple Captain America, Thor and Iron Man. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum dethroned Avengers: Endgame with a huge $57 million opening.
The Wick franchise continues to improve with each outing. The first film opened with $14 million en route to a solid $43 million total gross. It didn’t take long for Lionsgate to release the second film, which did even better. John Wick: Chapter Two doubled its predecessor with a $30 million opening and total $92 million domestic haul.
With a $57 million opening weekend, Parabellum looks to be the first film in the franchise to have a domestic haul over $100 million. A peak of $150 million doesn’t seem out of the question either.
Avengers: Endgame failed to take the top spot for a fourth consecutive week, but it did manage to break another record with a $29 million weekend. It toppled Avatar ($760 million)to earn the second highest domestic total of all time with $771 million. It’s looking less likely that Endgame can catch Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $936 million though. Some of that has to do with the timing of Force Awakens as its December opening meant far less competition than Endgame, which unofficially kicked off the summer movie season…in April.

Endgame continues its pursuit of Avatar for the worldwide highest grossing film. After this weekend, Endgame earned $2.61 billion, about $170 million away from dethroning Avatar.
Pokemon: Detective Pickachu brought in another $24 million to take its 10-day total of $93 million. A Dog’s Journey debuted with $8 million. Its predecessor, A Dog’s Purpose, brought in $18 million on its opening weekend in January 2017.
The Hustle took in $6 million to add to its $13 million opening last weekend. It’s now at $23.1 million.
