Freedom Fighters #6

freedom fighters #6

Freedom Fighters #6 marks the halfway point of one of my favorite DC books right now. Writer Robert Venditti keeps delivering surprises and artist Eddy Barrows continues to provide knockout art.

This might have been the best issue so far with the game changing introduction of Overman. In keeping with the theme of the series everything isn’t what it seems. Venditti introduces another huge twist that could change the fabric of the series provided the FF survive Overman. I love the direction of the series and Venditti really has a clear understanding of the concept. At this point it seems like Venditti has more than enough ideas and plots in mind to make this an ongoing title instead of a 12-issue maxi-series.

I can’t rave about Barrows’ art enough. Barrows has consistently delivered some of the best work in this series. He draws a weary Uncle Sam, heroic Black Condor and a Doll Woman with a strong presence.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but I love how Venditti weaves in familiar plot points of DC lore to tell a different tale from another universe.

This is a book you absolutely need to be reading if you’re a fan of underdog superheroes fighting impossible odds and a formidable unstoppable enemy.
