Justice League Dark #11

justice league dark #11

Settling on DC’s best team book is largely just a matter of what comes out on a given week. There’s a pretty tight race right now with Justice League, Freedom Fighters, Shazam, The Terrifics and Justice League Dark.

JLD doesn’t lose and standing after another phenomenal issue that keeps showing what makes this title so special.

Wonder Woman and Zatanna learn about one of Zatarra’s longtime secrets from Circe. While she’s passing on useful information as always Circe is playing her own game as she leads them to Mordru. Meanwhile Khalid catches the other team members on Dr. Fate and the Lords of Order’s plans.

Writer James Tyrion IV does such a great job with the characterization of the team members. It feels like he’s been writing this team for years instead of approaching his first year. There’s a great line that shows the extent of Tynion’s spot-on take of the DC Universe beyond the JLD.

Alvaro Martinez Bueno’s Art remains spectacular. He’s such a tremendous artist and he’s done a great job tackling these various worlds and coming up with so many creative designs. Combined with Brad Anderson’s colors and this is always one of the best looking books on the stands.

I love reading a book that continues to surprise and shake up expectations. JLD does that with every issue making for a title that’s always in the running for best of the week honors.
