The Flash #71

the flash #71

The Flash Year One is definitely not shaping up to be like a traditional revisionist take on the a character’s origin. Writer Joshua Williamson has come up with a fun take that brings Barry Allen with a glimpse of his future just as he starts his journey toward becoming a superhero. This is a neat twist especially as Barry faces the unlikely terror of the future, The Turtle.

Future Barry knows about the perils of time travel and has a unique way of verifying he’s meeting the correct younger counterpart. And how does younger Barry respond to his first encounter with a Rogue?

The real fun here is the more carefree Future Flash who encourages his pessimistic younger self to loosen up. It’s a welcome shift of the older and younger hero dynamic.

Howard Porter’s art remains sharp. His sense of storytelling for The Flash is terrific and he’s got a lively style ideal for the character. Hi-Fi’s colors are bold and eye-catching.

I’m impressed how consistently entertaining this book is and it’s not slowing down anytime soon.
