DC Comics reviews for 6/5/19 – Justice League #25, Batman #72

Young Justice #6

young justice #6

There’s always this weird moment when Brian Michael Bendis has gotten tired of writing an arc. The methodical pacing gets supercharged and the threat that seemed so unstoppable for 4-5 issues suddenly gets defeated in four pages.

And a few subplots that seemed ripe for a slow burn approach are resolved in no time. It’s just as well as the main hook of this Gem World arc was Young Justice reuniting.

On that front Bendis keeps delivering. He understands the dynamic of Robin, Superboy, Impulse and Wonder Girl with no trouble. I like Teen Lantern, but I’m still not sold on Jinny Hex and Amethyst as long-term members.

With Patrick Gleason leaving DC for Marvel, a new artist was needed. John Timms is a fine choice as he has a naturally playfully style well suited to a book featuring teenagers. Gabe Eltaeb’s colors are fittingly bright and sunny giving the book the cheery tone that’s needed.

Bendis seemed to abruptly get bored with the Gem World arc, but with the introductions out of the way we can start to see his vision for the direction of this title. It should be a fun adventure.
