DC Comics reviews for 6/19/19 – Superman Year One #1
Teen Titans #31
After all the infighting the last couple of issues the Teen Titans need a common enemy to rally against.<
Unfortunately for them, that’s Lobo.
Writer Adam Glass has written the team so formidable its somewhat surprising though completely accurate to watch Lobo wipe the floor with them. Robin trained them to tangle with high level street villains not intergalactic bounty hunters capable of giving Superman fits.
It’s nice to see the team in the underdog role as this provides Glass the opportunity to showcase them in a losing scenario using some impressive teamwork.
Crush has the hardest time focusing as she’s convinced this is her chance to get some payback for Lobo abandoning her as a child.
Artist Bernard Chang really gets to cut loose this issue with some colossal action sequences on a much larger scale than a typical issue. Colorist Marcelo Maiolo keeps Teen Titans one of the more visually stunning books from DC with vibrant primary colors.
Glass isn’t stretching this arc past it’s limits as this battle ends next issue. I appreciate the swift pacing even as I’m curious how the team can stop The Main Man. This was another fun read from one of DC’s most improved titles.
