Taika Waititi will helm the lightning again as Thor 4 director
Taika Waititi is ready to see if he can make lightning strike a second…or fourth time with Thor.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Waititi will be back to direct and write the fourth installment of Thor. This is good news for fans of the series, which got a jumpstart when Waititi came on board with a fresh take for Thor and his corner of the Marvel Universe with Thor: Ragnarok. That kind of came out of nowhere to be one of the most critically acclaimed and successful films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Star Chris Hemsworth suggested he was game to reprise his role as the God of Thunder if Waititi returned. In the wake of Avengers: Endgame there’s a lot of interesting paths Waititi could take the series with Thor’s closest Avengers allies Tony Stark and Black Widow dead, Steve Rogers an old man, Hulk crippled and Hawkeye enjoying retirement. With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the works from James Gunn, it’s possible Waititi uses Thor 4 as the first part of a crossover, which is one of the few things we haven’t seen done yet in the MCU.

But there’s also other fun Thor villains and allies who haven’t been in the mix yet like Enchantress, Balder the Brave and Beta Ray Bill. Waititi might be the only one who could pull off Thor Frog as well.
Waititi might also address Loki’s journey through time with him escaping in Endgame. Maybe it’ll be up to Thor to find his brother and put him back in the proper time for his ultimate fate at Thanos’ hands?
There’s a lot of cool ideas Waititi could explore so I’m thrilled he’s back as he’s to Thor what The Russo Brothers were to Captain America. Hopefully we’ll get some more news this week at Comic Con.
