DC Comics reviews 8/7/19 – Batman #76, Justice League #29
The Green Lantern #10
Grant Morrison hasn’t been afraid to reach for every star so far in his run on Green Lantern and this might be his trippiest issue yet.
Hal Jordan gets rescued from his previous mission only to get thrown in one where the fate of the Multiverse is at stake. No need to call the Justice League since Hal joins the Green Lanterns of the Multiverse.
Morrison uses established Multiverse Lanterns as well as introduces some new ones. They’re definitely some odd and interesting characters with some ready made clashing dynamics like the Batman Green Lantern forced to team with the hippie Lantern of Earth-47.
Morrison gives artist Liam Sharp a huge challenge this issue in illustrating these unique worlds and the enemies threatening the Multiverse. As usual, Sharp is up to the task and packed with more detail than most of his peers would attempt. Colorist Steve Oliff also has his hands full setting up a kaleidoscope of mesmerizing colors.
Letterer Tom Orzechowski likewise brings his A game using various fonts for the wide variety of alien races. The Green Lantern has always been a model of team effort and this issue is one of the best examples.
With so much going on Morrison can be forgiven for not rushing to a conclusion and ending on a strong cliffhanger. There’s no sense trying to figure out where Morrison is gonna go. The only reasonable course of action is to stay strapped up and enjoy the ride.
