It Chapter Two scares up box office with second best horror movie opening

While it didn’t set the new mark for the best horror movie opening, It Chapter Two continued the franchise’s dominance.

The sequel to the 2017 earned a huge $91 million opening. That’s not close to the record set by the first chapter, which shocked box office experts with $123 million.

Chapter Two makes it a one-two punch for the franchise as it knocks out the 2018 Halloween remake ($76 million) from second place on the all-time horror chart.

Worldwide Chapter Two has brought in $185 million.

Two-time winner Angel Has Fallen was in second place with $6 million. That takes its total to $53.4 million. With a $40 million budget, the film is already playing with house money so everything else is a bonus.

In third place, Good Boys brought in $5.4 million to take its total to $68 million. The Lion King took home another $4.1 million to go up to $529 million in eight weeks.

Closing out the top five is Overcomer with $3.75 million for $24.7 million. That’s taken the $5 million budgeted film to another big hit for the Kendrick Brothers.
