DC Comics reviews 9/18/19 – Justice League #32, Batman #79

Batman #79

batman #79

The Bat and Cat take a summer vacation interlude of City of Bane wraps this issue.

Interestingly this issue features a note on the first page saying these events occurred before Batman #77. As the issue plays out it definitely feels like this and issue 78 should have been released before 77. From that perspective Tom King’s story doesn’t feel nearly as egregious.

It’s still inconceivable that in any era Batman would calmly sip on drinks at the beach while Gotham is in chaos. At least Bruce gets to have a little sexy time with Selina.
For most of this issue Bruce and Selina consider their initial meeting. The dialogue doesn’t feel as tiresome as last issue, but again it feels like a lot of spinning in place. King could have made these last two issues one and not shortchange anything.

Clay Mann loves drawing the female form. This issue is crammed with suggestive posing and provocative camera angles. He does it well though and the imagery he conjured up with Tomeu Morey’s gorgeous colors really sells the picturesque beach setting.

While having a slightly better sense of direction than last issue, Batman 79 ultimately is another skippable issue beyond Mann’s stellar art.
