DC Comics reviews 9/18/19 – Justice League #32, Batman #79

Justice League #32

justice league #32

You know when you’re reading something special when there’s plenty of OMG moments on practically every page. That’s how reading this issue of Justice League is like as writers Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV are making the most epic Justice League arc since Grant Morrison was writing the title.

There’s some big sweeping moments from Green Lantern and The Flash teaming with the Justice Society to stop the Legion of Doom at Pearl Harbor in the past. Or the future where Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman align with Kamandi and Justice Legion A to stop Brainiac. Maybe the most fun aspect of this Justice/Doom War arc has been that true sense of grand comic book spectacle with no holds barred and everything is possible.

And for added measure to fully capture that Morrison JLA magic, Howard Porter is on hand to provide the art. Porter famously teamed with Morrison on JLA so this felt like a homecoming to the mega blockbuster era of the team. Porter turns back time with his art tapping back in to his 90s style of packing a ton of characters and action onto every page. Hi-Fi’s colors complement Porter’s work to give the art that extra element.

This is why we read comic books and with every revelation, new surprising appearance and epic action set piece, Snyder and Tynion are reminding DC fans that the Justice League is every bit as mighty as their Marvel counterparts. Don’t miss this one.
