Don’t cry over Arrow’s final season this year. There’s going to be plenty of screaming with this new Canaries spin-off featuring Mia Smoak, Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake.
According to Deadline, The CW is moving ahead with its Arrow future storyline heavily teased through much of the inconsistent Season 7. At the heart of the show will be Katherine McNamara’s Mia Smoak who will be paired with her mentors Laurel (Katie Cassidy) and Dinah (Juliana Harkavy). Mia will be carrying the mantle of her father, Oliver Queen, as the future’s Green Arrow.
Since this is a CW show, we can pretty much expect Mia’s brother William (Ben Lewis) will also be part of the cast as the know-everything tech genius and Conner Hawke (Joseph David-Jones) will be around as Mia’s potential love interest.

Apparently one of Arrow’s final eight episodes will be used as a backdoor pilot for the series. That’s weird since most of the future storyline seemed like an extended pilot for an Arrow spin-off. Gotta be honest and say this sounds awful as McNamara’s Mia was one of the main reasons Season 7 was so insufferable.
With Supergirl, Batwoman, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and this Arrow spin-off most of The CW superhero shows would star female leads. It’s something CW hasn’t broken their arms patting themselves on the back for, but it’s an interesting development of their universe.
I suppose on the plus side the show will have to find its own way without Emily Bett Rickards’ Felicity, who won’t be back as a series regular for Season 8. It seems unlikely that she would so quickly return for a new Arrowverse show.
