DC Comics reviews 10/9/19 – Detective Comics #1013, Event Leviathan #5
The Flash #80
Joshua Williamson has definitely mastered the classic comic book storytelling format of setting up the next threat while The Flash handles the current one.
It’s helping to make this inevitable clash with the powered-up Rogues a bigger deal even as Flash tangles with Hunter Zolomon and The Black Flash.
For now Barry is hot on the heels of Zolomon who has his own reasons for seeking out The Black Flash. And it’s not just to restore his connection to the Speed Force. Plus Barry has to deal with the return of Iris West just as everything else in his life is getting turned upside down.
Scott Kolins is back on art again reinforcing the luxury this book has of having so many stellar artists on deck from Kolins, Rafa Sandoval and Howard Porter. That’s part of the reason Flash hasn’t missed an issue despite its twice a month release status. Kolins’ return was well timed as he drew so many of Zolomon’s adventures in the pre-Flashpoint era.
The Flash always keeps its foot on the gas as Williamson raises the stakes for the Death of the Speed Force arc.
