DC Comics reviews 11/6/19 – Justice League #35, Batman #82

Batman #82

No one will be able to accuse Tom King of writing a boring issue this time.

Batman #82 is a long form brawl between Batman & Catwoman and Bane. And Thomas Wayne is speeding along to take out whoever’s still standing when it’s done.

This isn’t a very elaborate issue but at least the action covers up for a lack of true story progression.

If there’s one glaring issue here it’s that once again Batman has no idea Alfred is dead. Worse, the end of this issue suggests Batman won’t be able to get a true payback. Of course with Alfred gone, maybe King and incoming writer James Tynion IV have already settled on a replacement figure with Thomas Wayne?

Mikel Janin returns to handle the art and is joined by his frequent collaborator Jordie Bellaire. It’s a given then that the art is exquisite and colors outstanding. Batwoman’s wig for example really stands out.

This was a stronger installments than most recent Batman issues as King has to clear the decks for the end of his run so it’s time for the buildup to end and the final act to begin.
