DC Comics reviews 11/6/19 – Justice League #35, Batman #82

Lois Lane #5

The one thing that continues to stand out about Lois Lane about how professional this book comes across. Writer Greg Rucka really has managed to find the excitement in a journalist’s career and make that the basis of this book with the occasional vigilante action scenes and a brief Superman/Clark Kent cameo. It’s been a bit of a revelation — not that Lois could headline her own title — but that it’s being done so consistently well.

As far as spoilers or even a synopsis, there’s not a lot to spoil. Lois continues tracking a lead while The Question does some digging of her own on another angle on the case. The beauty of the book is The Question makes such a smart partner/sidekick for Lois that it’s surprising no one else thought of it before. That dynamic is fun as is watching Lois shine in her element. There’s something to being the world’s most famous reporter and Rucka understands that is very much a part of the Lois Lane presentation.

Artist Mike Perkins continues to deliver his now standard realistic pencils that fit Lois’ world perfectly. Still, Perkins can easily handle the brawling action sequences for The Question with some nods to the classic Superman tales with the obligatory Kent cameo.

I love this book for how it treats the not-so-glamorous life of a reporter who just so happens to be married to the world’s greatest reporter. Assuming Rucka and Perkins don’t lose interest there’s really no reason this should be relegated to just 12 issues.
