DC Comics reviews 2-26-20 – Action Comics #1020, Detective Comics #1020
Detective Comics #1020
It’s been a few months, but Two-Face is back and ready to carve up Gotham with a brand new shtick. Peter J. Tomasi has a clever premise for this arc with Two-Face expanding his influence in a way Batman would never expect. It also plays up the dual nature of the character in an obvious, but unexplored manner from other takes on the former Harvey Dent. One of the highlights of the series remains Tomasi going through actual efforts to put Batman in positions where he has to use his detective skills and not just punch bad guys for information. That’s an element of the character that’s been neglected lately so it’s nice to see him relying on his mind more than his fists.
Brad Walker returns for this arc making for an even more dynamic take on Two-Face. Walker is the kind of artist who really gets in his world packing in a ton of detail with some incredibly in your face perspectives and panel arrangements. Brad Anderson’s colors further play this energetic style up further and remains my favorite colorist in the business today.
This new arc hits a lot of sweet spots with the return of a dynamic artist and one of Batman’s most iconic villains and marks what should be another thrilling storyline for Detective Comics.
