HBO looks to explore the end of the world with The Last of Us adaptation

After the success of comic books with its Watchmen adaptation, HBO is moving ahead to the world of video games with a series based on the PlayStation hit The Last of Us.

The Wrap reports HBO is developing the series with game creator Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin. This marks what could be the first of many series from PlayStation Productions. Considering the marked improvement of stories in this current generation of video games there’s some intriguing options like God of War, Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and Life is Strange.

The game centers around Joel and Elle, two strangers forced to work together in a cross country gambit to find a cure for a virus that’s turned half the population to zombies. Naturally along the way they find some humans who aren’t as interested in helping them with their mission.

I’m looking forward to The Last of Us though as it has the potential to be a great series. It’s set up in a way that it could easily sustain several seasons. With The Last of Us Part II coming out later this year there’s going to be plenty of story material.
