Detective Comics hasn’t had bad art since Peter J. Tomasi’s arrival as writer, but there’s something special when he collaborated with Brad Walker.

Walker’s pencils are this amazing mix of a high quality cartoon packed with a barrage of details that give his pages a stylish realistic look that feels like going on a fantastic voyage.

Tomasi dutifully sticks with the focus of the title emphasizing Batman, the detective, who has to do things the hard and long way to crack a case. This detective legwork is what helps make this a different Batman presentation than shown in other books.

Batman is tracking down Two-Face hoping to stop his cult from reigning terror on Gotham. Just when it seemed like there weren’t any fresh angles to approach Two-Face, Tomasi comes up with an inspired take that fits with the character.

Andrew Hennessy’s inks and Brad Anderson’s colors take the visuals to another level of excellence making for a book that looks as good as the story. Tomasi and Walker are crafting a inning Detective Comics saga with some strong character beats and a stunning cliffhanger. Don’t miss this one.
