The Empire Strikes Back is one of my favorite movies so it’s no surprise I am a sucker for any quality ESB product. For its Star Wars The Black Series line, Hasbro somewhat double dipped on Princess Leia’s figure offerings so far. We got a Hoth outfit in a two-pack with Han Solo and we got the figure I’m looking at today — the Bespin Escape Princess Leia.
While somewhat simplistic, this is my favorite ESB attire for Leia as this is what she wore in one of the best scenes of the Star Wars saga. You know which one I’m talking about. Let’s see if this figure needs to escape my collection.
Packaging: The Black Series packaging is a simple, but distinguished presentation. Leia’s portrait seems to catch her in a relatively calm state in this outfit, which definitely would be a rare moment considering everything that happened at this point of the movie. The bio is very generic, summarizing Princess Leia as a whole instead of the significance of this particular attire.
Likeness: Ever since Hasbro started doing the face printing technique the likeness of the Star Wars Black Series figures has increased dramatically. It’s not hard to spot Carrie Fisher in this head sculpt. She has somewhat of a sad expression making this figure ideal for the carbon freezing sequence or flying away from Bespin.
While the white attire is plain from a color standpoint, Hasbro incorporated all of the folds, lining and patterns. I’m not sure if you can fully appreciate it from a distance, but up close it’s a surprisingly intricate outfit.
This is mostly the same attire as what Leia wore during Hoth minus the warmer gloves, vest and boots. Leia’s hairstyle is changed of course as it still reflects her refreshment wear before Lando’s betrayal.

Paint: Sometimes the face printing looks a little wonky up close, but Leia’s looks good. There is a subtle yellowish/grey wash on the outfit to give it a used appearance — Leia wore this in snowy Hoth, a cave monster’s mouth and the gassy carbon freezing chamber after all.
Scale: Leia was tiny especially compared to Chewbacca and this figure reflects her shorter stature.
Articulation: Princess Leia is able to achieve all of the signature poses I would expect from an ESB Bespin version. The joints are nice and tight as well allowing her to achieve some fun poses.
Princess Leia has:
- ball-jointed shoulders
- wrist hinge
- knees (double jointed)
Accessories: Princess Leia is lean on accessories as she only comes with the Stormtrooper blaster. That’s all that really makes sense save a pair of binders.
Worth it? I found Princess Leia at a clearance price of $10. I wouldn’t be upset paying that price for all Star Wars Black Series figures and it definitely feels like a good price point for Leia, who’s smaller and isn’t crammed with accessories.
Rating: 10 out of 10
I could argue about the lack of accessories, but that’s not really appropriate for this figure. It does make me more hesitant to hunt down the Hoth Leia, but I think I’m just kidding myself.
Where to get it? Bespin Escape Leia was a Target exclusive, but you can still get her for a marked up price on Amazon.
