Hasbro Fan First Monday reveals Star Wars Empire Strikes Back Carbonite playset

Hasbro typically makes big figure reveals on Fridays, but presumably in recognition of Juneteenth, they decided to delay the Star Wars Fan First Friday until today. A big portion of the roll-outs were more product celebrating the 40th Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, including one potentially amazing display piece.

Here’s some of the figures shown by Hasbro.

STAR WARS: THE VINTAGE COLLECTION CARBON-FREEZING CHAMBER Playset

STAR WARS THE VINTAGE COLLECTION CARBON-FREEZING CHAMBER Playset - in pck (2)

(HASBRO/Ages 4 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $49.99 Available: Fall 2020)

Celebrate the legacy of STAR WARS, the action-and-adventure-packed space saga from a galaxy far, far away, with this premium 3.75-inch scale STAR WARS: THE VINTAGE COLLECTION CARBON-FREEZING CHAMBER Playset. This playset comes with a STORMTROOPER action figure and HAN SOLO in Carbonite block, and combines with an additional set to create the full scene from STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (Additional set sold separately). Featuring original Kenner branding and premium detail inspired by STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, this collectible 3.75-inch scale playset makes a great gift for STAR WARS fans and collectors. Includes playset, figure, and HAN SOLO in Carbonite. Available for pre-order at Hasbro Pulse, Amazon, and Entertainment Earth.

The catch is this setup isn’t complete unless you buy two pieces. I like the look of the set, but is it enough to warrant the $100 price tag? At least it comes with the Carbonite Han and a Stormtrooper. Being able to double dip and freeze Han and start the Luke/Vader duel is a big selling point though…

There weren’t a lot of new Vintage Collection figures, but we are getting a Bespin Escape Leia to complement the playset.

Next up was a series of the Vintage Card Black Series figures including the original card-art for Jedi Training Luke. This one doesn’t come with a Yoda so it’s not as exciting an option for me. I do see myself grabbing a few Snowtroopers however.

Pre-order Jedi Training Luke at Entertainment Earth and Amazon.
