DC Comics reviews 7/21/20 – Batman #95, Justice League Dark #24
Detective Comics #1024
With Joker War also starting this week, Batman’s battle with Two-Face feels somewhat anticlimactic. Still, writer Peter J. Tomasi and artist Brad Walker make this final Joker War prelude a memorable one.
Batman and Two-Face have to decide if they’re friends or foes as Joker stacks the deck with any army of Talons, the foot soldiers/assassins of the Court of Owls. Walker has an explosive action scenario to play with and Tomasi wisely just lets him cut loose with the fracas. With so much detail and energy on every page, Walker’s art has rarely looked better and colorist Brad Anderson assures the action looks equally vibrant as it is intense.
Tomasi ends the arc on a hopeful note on the status of the Batman/Two-Face alliance although we know it can’t last. At least there’s one last rogue Batman won’t have to contend with during Joker War.
