DC Comics reviews 7/28/20 – Batman/Superman #10, Wonder Woman #759

Suicide Squad #7

suicide squad #7

Tom Taylor has conditioned readers so well to expect the worst that it does not look good when Deadshot returns home and learns his daughter, Zoe, has taken up a new hobby.

Floyd Lawton is ready to get out of the game after serving his time with the Suicide Squad. But after being a professional hit an for so many years, his skill set doesn’t lend itself to a regular desk gig.

Meanwhile, Ted Kord is intensifying his efforts to track down and kill this new Suicide Squad. Taylor’s earned patience, but I’m still leery of this direction of making Ted a Maxwell Lord style villain. Especially with Maxwell Lord returning to Wonder Woman anyway.

And when Kord sics the Feds on the Squad, that’s bad news for Deadshot’s homecoming with a potentially tragic result.

Daniel Sampere fills in for Bruno Redondo capably with a style that might lack some of Redondo’s flair, but retains every bit the solid and engaging storytelling, which is vital this issue.

Adriano Lucas’ color work remains sharp conveying some nice contrasts of darkness in daylight and reds and yellows for encouraging, optimistic moments.

Best result from this issue? Deadshot ditches that image intensifier lens gear for his traditional mask.

This issue flew by as usual and was another winner from Taylor along with Sampere. If you’re not already reading Suicide Squad, you’re missing out on one of DC’s finest.
