Justice League Odyssey #23
I’m not happy Justice League Odyssey is ending. Sure, it wasn’t ideal to have two of DC’s highest profile minorities in Cyborg and Jessica Cruz stranded in space away from the rest of the DC Universe. Writer Dan Abnett and artist Will Conrad crafted a fun, unpredictable sci-fi superhero book that’s ending too soon.
With the lamentations over let’s see how this home stretch plays out.
Jessica has gone missing, but the rest of the team is pretty confident in their strategy of letting the New God killer, Eskaton, live up to his status and take out Darkseid. But except the whole Darkseid is…deal that makes killing him easier said than done.
Conrad naturally has no trouble rendering the conflict. He pours an impressive amount of detail in each page and his action sequences are always so well done. Rain Beredo’s colors are so vital to this title and they’re magnificent here.
A big twist in the end tips the odds back against the team just when it seemed like they’d earned some desperately needed momentum. It looks like the title is going to wrap with another surprise in this final stretch.
