I’m not a huge Halo fan — the consequences of being a PlayStation guy in a console war — but I’ve always loved the design of Master Chief. For the Mega Construx San Diego Comic Con 2020 (at Home) exclusive, Mattel went with an evolution of Halo’s flagship character in this Mjolnir Evolved set.
Here’s the product description:
Deploying exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con 2020, this limited edition collection of Master Chief micro action figures truly exemplifies the evolution of combat. Celebrate the Halo franchise by building 6 different versions of MJOLNIR exoskeletons, beginning with the MK V and spanning through to the highly anticipated MK VI GEN3 – set to be revealed in the upcoming Halo Infinite. This collector set also features several weapon accessories, a special Cortana hologram with unique deco and a Cortana chip; to unlock this pack, the Cortana chip is required.
Packaging: Like every other exclusive this year the packaging is really sweet. It’s shaped to convey Master Chief’s armor. Remove the outer shell, but keep track of that chip on the left side — you’ll need that for the light-up feature.
The inner packaging is very well done showcasing the various armors. It took me a while to decipher how to actually open the set, but it’s just a tab on the right side that gives with a little effort.
I appreciate the easy tab setup for the weapons so if you’d like you can easily replace everything when you’re done playing around. The instructions on how to use the light-up feature aren’t great since the there’s no diagram to explain how to utilize it. Once it’s lit though it’s a nice display piece all on its own.
Likeness: The armor is actually very intricate. I’m thinking this a lot, but at this smaller scale the work done on the amount of detail from the helmet ridges, armor plating and boots is impressive. And there’s not nearly as much reuse as you might think either.
Paint: For this scale the paint work is exemplary. There’s no slop on any of the figures. The chrome work on the visor pops and there’s even some wash on the figures.

Scale: Since it’s the same character, a change in scale would be kinda weird so they’re all at the under 2″ height.
Articulation: The Mega Construx articulation scheme is really impressive for this scale. I’d love if the neck ball joint had a bit more range to provide for slightly better looking up poses.
The shoulder armor doesn’t impede up and down movement. Waist movement is solid and the knees also move nicely. You’re not really going to be able to get a lot of dynamic poses without the stands, but he does move very well.
Master Chief has:
- ball-jointed shoulders
Accessories: Each Master Chief has their respective weapon. I appreciated how the weapons fit snugly in to the hands and you can position the arms in a hands so the longer weapons can be held with both hands.
Here’s what comes with each one:
Halo: Combat Evolved – Pistol
Halo 2 – Two SMGs
Halo 3 – Spartan Laser
Halo 4 – Rail Gun
Halo 5: Guardians – Energy Sword
Halo Infinite – Assault Rifle
There’s also six blocks, which double as stands or whatever wacky creation you can conceive.
Worth it? This set went on sale with Mattel Creations Instagram set. Now you’ll have to check eBay for it for now.
