It hasn’t been confirmed fully, but the rumors are running heavily that Henry Cavill’s Superman will be back in the DC Extended Universe in a prominent role again.
The Cultured Nerd reports Cavill and Warner Bros. have reached an agreement for the Mission: Impossible 6 star to return for three more films. This doesn’t include cameos in other films so Cavill’s Superman could be in as many as six films under this new contract.
In an interview with Men’s Health, Cavill said “There’s a lot I have to give for Superman yet. A lot of storytelling to do. A lot of real, true depths to the honesty of the character I want to get into. I want to reflect the comic books. That’s important to me. There’s a lot of justice to be done for Superman. The status is: You’ll see.”
Apparently, Cavill was able to make a successful pitch to Warner Bros. execs on a Superman arc. If you’ve listened to Cavill talk about Superman over the last few years, he actually has a great handle on the character.
Back in 2018 while talking with Fandom, Cavill mentioned a classic Superman villain we haven’t seen on the big screen yet.
‘I think a great villain would be Brainiac,’ Cavill said. ‘That’d be a good villain to play against…Brainiac’s a big threat. There’s a lot of fun. There’s a lot to him, there’s a lot of storylines to him.’
Brainiac would make for a fun villain for Superman and apparently Dwayne Johnson is very keen on Superman showing up in a Black Adam film as well.
With Ben Affleck returning for The Flash film and rumors that Warner Bros. is considering some sort of Affleck Batman project for HBO Max it seems like the Zack Snyder Justice League could be in place for a sequel.
