Gideon Falls #25

gideon falls #25

Angela learns the history of the multiverse and it’s connection to Gideon Falls in an issue that ends just as it starts building momentum.

Writer Jeff Lemire offers an intentionally vague breakdown of Gideon Falls origin as the Bishop and Angela try to find sanctuary in a world going increasingly mad.

Artist Andrea Sorrentino creatures a beautiful backdrop of the point of creation, but it does require the use of page-killing double spreads. This in turn shortens the story dramatically at the point when the Bishop and Angela are on the run.

Sorrentino’s take on the infected is frightening with their inhumanly large wide, toothy mouths. They don’t look like zombies, but are much more terrifying.

Despite the somewhat abbreviated story, Gideon Falls continues to be one of the best examples of atmospheric and tense comics available today.

The cliffhanger ending sets the stage for the big final act and I’m still unclear how Lemire and Sorrentino will wrap everything up. But that’s part of the fun, isn’t it?
