Future State Nightwing #1

future state nightwing #1

No matter if it’s One Year Later, the New 52, Rebirth and now Future State, Nightwing always has a way of being a must-read title.

In this early era of Future State, Nightwing is carrying on Bruce Wayne’s mission with the surviving and free Gotham vigilantes. As the leader of the resistance, he’s the main target for Peacekeeper-01.

Writer Andrew Constant does an excellent job of showing an evolved Nightwing, who hasn’t completely fallen into despair as he carries on the Bat Family legacy. There’s even a few quips thrown in for good measure.

This is the first full appearance of Peacekeeper-01 and Constant makes sure he’s portrayed as a major threat.
Constant also brings in a special guest star that makes sense in this timeline of Future State. Together they’re going to need all of their skills to stave off Peacekeeper-06’s latest salvo.

I remain a fanatic of Nicola Scott’s artwork and if there was any hesitancy in checking out this Future State story it subsided the moment she was announced as the artist.

Scott’s panels are gorgeous with the lifelike renderings of characters and it was nice seeing her take on Nightwing after sharing a few pin-ups of the former Boy Wonder. Colorist Ivan Plasencia lights up Gotham with bright, neon-drenched color choices that contrast nicely with this darker story.

Constant and Scott have the makings of a strong creative team that hopefully will be able to continue collaborating on Nightwing’s adventures after Future State.
