The Best Man original cast reunites for limited series on Peacock

Every year I make it a point to watch The Best Man Holiday. I love that cast and was hoping it wouldn’t be another 14 years before we got the third installment. That’s not going to come in a trilogy film, but a streaming series.

The Best Man: The Final Chapters will be a 10-episode series from creator Malcolm D. Lee and Dayna Lynne North (Insecure).

Don’t worry, we’re not getting some Best Man: The Next Generation as the original cast Morris Chestnut, Nia Long, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Sanaa Lathan, Melissa De Sousa and Harold Perrineau.

Deadline reports the series might kick off in September. There’s no news if Monica Calhoun will return in some sort of flashbacks as her character didn’t survive the sequel.

“Here we go! The band is back together! I am very excited to bring these iconic characters back to the fans who have supported us through this franchise,” Lee said in a statement. “We are thrilled to deliver everything one would expect from this group of friends in The Best Man universe and take them through their final chapters. We can’t wait! I told you it wouldn’t be 14 more years.”

The Best Man originally came out in 1999 with sequel releasing in November 2013. The franchise has been a big box office hit with the first film earning $34 million with a $9 million budget while the sequel brought in $70 million.

Lee announced The Best Man Wedding was slated for a 2016, but scheduling issues ultimately resulted in its long-term delay.
