Infinite Frontier #0

The first step of the new DC Universe starts with this issue, an anthology preview of what’s in store for the classic, present and future heroes in the DCU.

Joshua Williamson, James Tynion IV and Scott Snyder write the beginning, transitional and closing segments while the respective new creative teams tease the next few months of storylines.

As promised, some characters who were killed along the way of the New 52 and Rebirth eras receive a get out of death free card. At least in these instances, their resurrections were appreciated and fix a few questionable editorial decisions. Bat Family fans probably won’t be ecstatic with the choices however.

MORE:

There’s a pretty extensive retcon of one character to fit in with future media portrayals. It reads a little too simple and easy here, but hopefully it will be explored more in another title.

Most of the sequences do the job of raising interest in the initial arcs. Joelle Jones’ Yara Flor Wonder Girl is a standout as well as the Justice League story from Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez. The overall new direction for the Wonder Woman books is easily one of the most overall promising as DC editorial has learned a better way to hand over the reins of a legacy character that doesn’t result in the older character getting killed off.

This is the biggest issue of the week for DC as it showcases what’s coming for 2021 in a way that suggests less depressing storylines — those appropriately seem reserved for the Batman corner of the DCU — and a better sense of unpredictable adventure. Don’t miss this one.
