Always eager to break new ground with under utilized characters in its roster, we’re getting a pair of animated series on HBO Max starring the little used Batman and Superman. I’ve been hearing a lot about this Wonder Woman character too. Interesting that she didn’t make the cut.
My Adventures With Superman will star Jack Quaid (The Boys) as Superman/Clark and Alice Lee (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) as Lois Lane. According to Variety, this series will focus on a young 20ish Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent along with his best friend Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane.
The serialized, coming-of-age story sees Superman build up his secret identity and embrace his role as the hero of Metropolis (and, perhaps the world), while Lois, now a star journalist, takes aspiring photographer Jimmy under her wing. All the while, Clark and Lois are falling in love, sharing adventures and taking down bad guys.

I like the notion of a show that focuses on Superman and Lois Lane. That’s a pretty cool idea and something I wish DC and Warner Bros. would explore on the live action front as well. Oh, wait…

Also arriving on HBO Max is Batman: Caped Crusader from executive producers Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves. It’ll be interesting that Abrams is working with Timm on this instead of dutifully paying homage to Batman: The Animated series episode by episode.
Per Deadline, the series will be ‘thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters.’
I dunno guys. Maybe it’s me, but DC/Warner Bros. is never truly going to reach Marvel Studios level of dominance if the only tricks in their playbook are let’s run it back again with Batman and Superman.
How about trying something new like a less kiddy version of the Legion of Super Heroes? The Outsiders? Justice Society or Justice League International? I’ll watch them of course, but I really wish we could get something different.
What do you think?
