WWE Wrestlemania Goldberg figure review – BAF Paul Ellering wave
This Wrestlemania Goldberg figure might be one of the easiest ones Mattel has ever released. It’s essentially the exact same figure that came with the WWE Main Event Scale Ring.
Given that figure’s exclusive nature re-releasing it wasn’t the worst idea and allows collectors the chance to wrap their Goldberg collection with this version of Oldberg.
Packaging: This year’s Wrestlemania decor lacks the cool pirate theme of last year’s setup, which is apparently carrying over to this year’s actual event.
Mattel opted for a more timeless setup with a yellow gold and blue color scheme. We get the usual big portrait of Goldberg on the front, a side portrait and action shot.
The bio shows how impressive Goldberg’s purely WWE career has been while the bio teases his less than stellar match with Braun Strowman.
Likeness: Goldberg’s likeness hasn’t been a tricky one for Mattel as the three different head sculpts reflect him well. I like the intensity of this one as it captures the grizzled old veteran (shoutout GYT on NXT) that’s ready to take down the new gunslinger.
Mattel gets some criticism, in some cases rightfully so, for their part choices. That hasn’t been a problem with Goldberg and his frame is accurately represented with the part choices from the broader chest to the skinnier legs. His MMA style gloves and short boots are also on point.
Scale: Goldberg is 6’4”, taller than the 6’3” Brock Lesnar, but shorter than the 6’5″ Drew McIntyre.
Paint: Here’s the main difference from the Main Event ring. The white top trim is thinner than the previous release. Yep, that’s it.
The thicker white looks nicer and the slim lining on the bottom of the trunks is far too miniscule.
Articulation: Modern Goldberg is basically a spam video game character that punches, kicks and hits the spear and jackhammer finisher combo.
This figure can handle that with no trouble.
Goldberg has:
- neck
- bicep
- ball-jointed shoulders
- elbows
- wrists
- wrist hinge
- waist
- hips
- thighs
- knees (double-jointed)
- ankles
Accessories: Goldberg gets a good amount of add-ons. He comes with the Universal Championship. I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve got this particular title. I like the strength of the blue and the overall paintwork on the belt is clean.
He also has some open hands although I’m surprised one set wasn’t basic fists.
Finally, he comes with the vintage head of the Build-A-Figure Paul Ellering. Mattel clearly knew what they were doing here as I would have skipped this figure entirely if it came with the more modern Ellering head.
Worth it? I got him for the standard $20 price tag. I’m glad Mattel doesn’t charge any extra for BAF waves any longer as a higher price tag would definitely dinged his value.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
I didn’t need a modern era Goldberg, but the figure is nice enough. More importantly, this guy gets me closer to having a Paul Ellering on my shelf.
Where to get it? Amazon has this wave in and out stock, but right now he’s above retail price.
