WWE Legends Series 10 John Cena figure review

It’s weird we’ve reached the point where John Cena is considered a legit candidate for the Legends/Flashback line. Still, Cena is probably the most modern character included in the Legends line

Packaging:  I love the gold, brown and yellow color scheme of the Legends line. These probably have the best character portraits as well with the drawing style.

And outside of special exclusives the Legends features the best bios. This one does a nice summation of Cena’s career and the flashback moment tying in to this attire.

Likeness:  I don’t love this choice of head sculpt. When he debuted, Cena wasn’t a fun-loving smiling character. He was focused and intense. The package artwork reflects much more of how Cena looked. This head sculpt is more of a conquered the mountain Champ is Here Cena.

It’s weird that for all of the Cena figures Mattel has done, they still haven’t been able to top the best Jakks’ head sculpt featuring the younger Cena with thicker somewhat spikier hair. Ironically the alternate head sculpt is far superior and fitting for this figure.

Cena gets the heavily muscular torso that I don’t think has been used outside of the Vince McMahon figure. That’s a good choice for Cena who was only rivaled by Batista for the most ripped physique during the Ruthless Aggression era. Mattel got the right arms and legs for Cena as well.

Scale:  Cena is 6’1″ putting him just a bit taller than the 6′ Kurt Angle and Chris Jericho while he should be looking up at the 6’3″ Brock Lesnar. The scaling on the line remans impressive more often than not and Mattel knocked this out very well.

MORE:

Paint:  In his early WWE stint, Cena would wear a different combination of bright colored tights, wrist pads, knee pads and boots. It was a cool gimmick as you never knew what color he would rock each week.

Basically any combination would have worked, but Mattel was able to use a recent example for this figure. In his journey through his career WrestleMania match against Bray Wyatt, Cena took a meta trip through his highlights starting with his multi-color era. And the tights chosen were the orange and blue attire.

Mattel doesn’t have problems with simple paint schemes like this figure so there was no shock that the lining was solid on the tights and the boots.

Articulation: Cena used a high impact, quick strike attack scheme. The standard Elite body holds up just fine for his move set for this period of his career.

He hadn’t quite figured out all of his big moves or settled on a finisher relying on cheaper roll-ups to beat established stars.

John Cena has:

  • neck
  • bicep
  • ball-jointed shoulders
  • elbows
  • wrists
  • wrist hinge
  • waist
  • hips
  • thighs
  • knees (double-jointed)
  • ankles

Accessories:  Cena has a good amount of accessories. This isn’t his Chain Gang era phase so he doesn’t have the cool jerseys and hats gimmicks yet so there’s only so much Mattel could do with this figure.

He comes with alternate open right hand and spread palms left hand as well as a set of fists.

He also has a WWE mic presumably to answer Kurt Angle’s challenge.

Tying in to his feud with Bray Wyatt, there’s a demon Vince McMahon puppet from the Funhouse. This isn’t the same bonus if you’ve already grabbed the Bray Funhouse exclusive.

Finally, he’s got the modern head sculpt for his confrontation with Bray Wyatt. The modern sculpt is better and actually reflects Cena’s older appearance.

Worth it?  I got Cena for $20, which is decent price for this guy since Mattel tried to add some useful accessories.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10

You can add another point or two if you wanted to reenact the WrestleMania 36 match, but since I wanted a young Cena this figure is somewhat disappointing due to the weaker head sculpt.

Where to get it?  The WWE Legends line is exclusive to Target so you’ll need to either get him at your local store or order him from Target.com.
