Star Wars The Black Series Cad Bane figure review

Cad Bane is one of those special Star Wars characters like Boba Fett that immediately became a fan favorite. We do love our mysterious bounty hunters.

Cad was a regular antagonist on Clone Wars, which helped raise his stock to be associated with one of the strongest properties in the Star Wars universe.

As I’m slowly building up my Clone Wars collection, I was glad to add one of the major characters not affiliated with The Republic or The Separatists. Let’s see if this guy was worth the price I paid for him.

Packaging: I know you’re tired of me talking about my love of this new packaging. I still do greatly appreciate this upgrade.

Clone Wars gets a yellow orange accent color. Cad is the last character in the largely Wal-Mart exclusive Clone Wars wave, which means good luck in actually lining up this mural.

Cad gets a good bio that sums up his role in the Clone Wars nicely.

Likeness: Hasbro has already knocked out a 3 3/4 version and of course this six-inch version shows off more detail and depth.

The head sculpt is terrific with a fitting sneer and the tubes connecting to his cheeks. He’s got a great sinister design with the sunken eyes and the sci-fi cowboy attire.

I love the layout of his trench coat with the clasps and the flared bottom. I’m not sure why he needs bullet belts, but they look cool so I won’t complain.

His mechanical gauntlets connect the tubes well and all of the detail with the intricate layers of the costume are captured well.

The chaps have solid depth and the jet packs along the boots are scaled properly also.

Paint: Cad has lots of detailed elements in his outfit and the paint job is spot on. The details with the buckles is crisp and the shirt even has a wash.

Cad’s color scheme is pretty simple with a lot of browns and greys, both of which have some washes to them to help bring out the details.

MORE:

Scale: Cad is a little taller than the Clone Wars Obi-Wan figure, which seems right for this series.

Articulation:  Cad needs fluid articulation as fitting for a bounty hunter capable of mixing it up with Jedi and surviving.

The engineering on his articulation is smart with deep hip sockets and the SWB longer elbow joints that simulate the range we’d find in most double jointed elbows in other lines.

It wasn’t hard hitting some basic melee moves after he disarmed Jedi and could utilize some jet-boot assisted punches and kicks.

Accessories:  Cad Bane comes with his signature blasters. The detail as usual is impeccable from the sights to the grip. Most of the paintwork is dead on although some of the black over sprays onto the barrel on one of them.

There is a deluxe version that came with Cad’s droid, Todo 360, but it sold out in about 30 seconds. Todo would have been a nice addition, and I wish Hasbro used something else for the exclusive so we could have gotten his droid sidekick.

Worth it?  I got Cad for the regular $20. There’s been a few sales of this wave for a few dollars cheaper and you probably would want to get him sooner than later as he’s bound to be one very expensive in the months to come.

Rating: 10 out of 10

It was hard to find much to complain about with Cad Bane outside of the lack of his exclusive accessory. I definitely would have preferred to get Todo as well. On his own this is a really well executed figure and another Clone Wars-era character I’m thrilled got made into figure form.

Where to get it? I’ve seen Cad a few times at Target and retail is the best option for him right. Or you can go the GameStop, Amazon and Entertainment Earth options. As affiliates I get a portion of qualifying purchases.
