Image Comics reviews 6/9/21 – The Good Asian #2, Geiger #3
The Good Asian #2
Rest assured, the first issue of The Good Asian wasn’t a fluke. All of the elements that made the kickoff so engaging are back along with some juicy new layers of this stylish and cool noir
Police officer Edison Hark is still trying to dig up some leads on the missing Ivy Chen, the lover of his surrogate father Mason Carroway. Mason isn’t much use in the investigation since he’s still in a coma. His son, Frankie, brings in a new friend, attorney Terence to help open up some other doors Edison can’t with his badge.
Edison’s path takes him to some standard haunts before he stumbles onto a location he’d never experienced with more than a few familiar faces.
Writer Pornsak Pichetshote keeps the pace moving briskly while crafting some memorable dialogue. Edison’s inner monologue has that classic noir narration and he’s got just the right amount of edge for an officer who feels isolated by his people and his fellow officers.
Artist Alexandre Tefenkgi does some very creative layouts and the clues Edison observes is such a clever concept for this series. Tefenkgi gives his characters a ton of personality from their body language and expressions. The art is spectacular and colorist Lee Lourghridge complements his style well with just shades of the primary colors helping to convey the mood of the moment.
The Good Asian is an excellent read and has been a pleasant surprise. I’m looking forward to seeing where the investigation goes next.
