AEW Unrivaled Series 4 Matt Hardy review

Matt Hardy really cut the line in Jazwares’ AEW Unrivaled figure line. There’s been some AEW stars who’ve been there since the first episode still waiting on their figures, but it’s hard to argue with Money Matt’s star power.

The trick for Jazwares here is topping some pretty decent figures from Matt Hardy’s last WWE run from Mattel. Time to see which one needs to get deleted.

Packaging:  No new breakdown here. Eye catching black and gold packaging with useless side panels as a result of the tiny picture and lack of figure identification text.

The back lacks a useful bio or stats.

Likeness: The head sculpt is killer. I remain impressed with the work Jazwares has done on 90% of the head sculpts.

The likenesses have been spot on and going with a more animated expression for Matt makes sense. The sculpt even got the wide flair of his hair, which is very impressive.

Matt’s cloak is removable. He’s got a thick torso that matches up with his physique pretty well despite the abs. I like the default pointing right hand as it works for a DELETE! motion.

Jazwares didn’t shortchange on the pants with all the various buckles and pockets.

Scale:  Matt is 6’1″, making him on the taller side of this roster and the same height as Cody Rhodes. So far he’ll only be looking up at the 6’2″ Jon Moxley and looking down at the 6’ Kenny Omega and Hangman Page. Matt’s head seems like it’s sized up just a bit too much compared to the other figures.

MORE:

Paint: For most of his Broken/Woken/Damascus AEW run, Matt wore dark wine red and black. His cloak and pants have very intricate patterns and this figure is pretty flawless on the applications right down to the fading of the red in his hair, the teeth and the tongue.

The one catch is the torso and arms aren’t the same color so there’s an inconsistency with his skin tone. It’s noticeable beyond pictures, but isn’t terrible.

Articulation:  At this point the face off with Mattel’s Elite version has been in the Unrivaled version’s favor. The articulation essentially makes it a non-contest.

Matt isn’t at the point in his career where he’s flying all around like his Team Xtreme days, but it is nice to be able to pull off various moves without a lot of compromises.

That’s due to the floating torso and wider range of elbows and hips. His hair makes it harder than I’d like to do some the random move.

Matt Hardy has:

  • neck
  • bicep
  • ball-jointed shoulders
  • elbows (double-jointed)
  • wrists
  • wrist hinge
  • torso
  • waist
  • hips
  • thighs
  • knees (double-jointed)
  • ankles

Accessories:  The packaging presentation does the figure a massive disservice in this case. You can clearly see the swappable hands with grappling and mic holding options.

What you won’t make out too well is the super bonus inclusion of Vanguard-1 complete with a Matt Hardy hologram complete with an articulated neck.

That’s really cool and is the kind of accessory that could push undecided folks into getting the figure. This is also why Jazwares needs to rethink the rear packaging to show the figure and their accessories.

But throwing in Vanguard-1 and the hologram throws the Jazwares version over the top.

I mentioned the cloak already, but it is a fantastic piece that’s wonderfully ornate with the buckles and the patterns within.

Worth it?  I was able to pick up Hardy for $20. Matt has enough that this is an easy value price for a figure of this quality.

Rating: 9 out of 10

There’s really not much more I could ask for with this figure. Jazwares really knocked him out and created the definitive Woken take of Matt Hardy.

Where to get it?  Target has made collecting AEW Unrivaled so much easier. I’ve seen Wave 4 restocked three times at one nearby store so the effort is being made to get them out to collectors, which is all that we can ask for in a relatively new line.

You can still order the Wave 4 Kenny Omega now at Amazon.
