Mister Miracle The Source of Freedom #2

mister miracle the source of freedom #2

Mister Miracle The Source of Freedom is creating welcome depth and layers to one of the previously least engaging legacy heroes.

A common thread of the series so far has been Shilo trying to decide if he’s going to be a secret celebrity or a public superhero. That’s an interesting dilemma writer Brandon Easton has established and one that resonates stronger with the real world’s obsession with social media fame.

With his identity compromised, Shilo Norman seeks out some sanctuary as N’via Free, the daughter of Scott Free and Big Barda comes looking to restore her legacy.

Making more of the legacy connecting Shilo with Thaddeus Brown, the earlier Mister Miracle on this Earth who kept his identity secret for fear of blowback from being a black entertainer.

It shouldn’t be a novelty, but I appreciate that Shilo has a black love interest. Too often that’s treated like a novelty as writers tend to favor interracial relationships for black heroes. Denise is a refreshing average person who will help ground Shilo from the trappings of celebrity status.

Fico Ossio’s artwork is astonishing. Ossio brings an energy and intensity that works tremendously for a relatively blank slate character like Shilo.

Ossio is redefining Shilo for the next generation and Rico Rentzi’s dazzling colors complete the amazing setup.

Once you start this series, it’d be hard to imagine pulling a disappearing act and not seeing it through to the end. This is a captivating title that’s only to get better each issue.
