Star Wars: The Bad Batch – Bounty Lost review S1 E9
The second I saw the title for this week’s Bad Batch was Bounty Lost, I had a bad feeling about it.
I was really looking forward to the prospect of just a few episodes of The Bad Batch where Omega wasn’t such a heavy focus. That hope didn’t even last one episode. The Bad Batch pull off a hyperdrive escape on Crosshair, who came off impressively lame in his brief cameo. I guess Crosshair’s crew couldn’t chart possible destinations?
Most of the episode focused on Omega escaping from Cad Bane’s clutches. Throughout Clone Wars, Cad Bane was shown to be a highly capable and competent bounty hunter. To lose Omega would require some out of character wacky hijinks.
That was accomplished mostly from his droid, Toddo 360. It didn’t seem to make a lot of sense for Toddo to stay in the cell area with Omega, which allowed her to manipulate him into releasing her from her cell under the guise of fixing his broken leg.
Cad Bane doesn’t miss him until Omega is free and contacting the clones. Good thing she remembered their number.
Tech should probably be renamed Hindsight at this point because he always provides the useful information long after the fact. The bounty hunters are after Omega because she’s another direct clone with unaltered, pure DNA from Jango Fett. I’m fuzzy on clone genetics. Does this mean Boba Fett has…a sister? Man, I hope y’all were reading that in sinister Darth Vader voice.
This could explain Omega’s tech skills and decent aiming proficiency, but I still don’t understand why the Republic/Empire didn’t immediately suspect that a female clone was unique and special. It seems like she would have been targeted quickly. That’s about it for the title characters as they have to wait on Omega to get a clear signal before they can do anything.

Poor Taun We. She survived the Clone Wars only to get gun downed in cold blood by Fennec Shand.
I praised the writers last week for actually having the guts to let Hunter, the new fresh and shiny toy, lose to Cad Bade in a stand-off.
Despite Cad and Fennec agreeing she’s not on his level yet, Fennec essentially beat him on every encounter. We know Fennec is going to be around for at least another 20 years. Does she need to be as skilled as Cad Bane already? Characters can evolve and become better over time. I wonder if Luke Skywalker was introduced today if he’d immediately be at Return of the Jedi skill level in Star Wars?
It’s why watching young Boba Fett failing to be the coldest and most ruthless bounty hunter in Clone Wars so effective. He had to learn strategies and take some losses during his growing pain period. Fennec just immediately comes in at an all-star level.
For the record, Fennec sabotaging Cad’s ship was a perfect strategy as it reinforced the notion that while Fennec couldn’t beat him, she could outthink him in this instance. Fennec was operating on behalf of Nala Se, the Kaminoan that formed a bond with Omega, and is going rogue from Lama Su’s plans to mine her DNA and kill her. The Empire isn’t interested in clones any longer so why would Lama Su be focused on getting her DNA?
Bounty Lost proved the writers aren’t interested in a Bad Batch show without keeping the focus on Omega. It seemed a missed opportunity to create some drama where the Bad Batch had to work to rescue her instead of getting her back the next episode.
