DC Comics reviews 7/13/21 – Infinite Frontier #2, Rorschach #10
Detective Comics #1039
Between Batman and Detective Comics, Gotham is in a major state of disarray. The Vile triggered Mr. Worth into obliterating the city in hopes of killing Bruce Wayne, who he believes killed his daughter. Like everyone else, Worth is lacking proof of this accusation, but figures it’s best to kill off any and every potential suspect.
Writer Mariko Tamaki and Batman writer James Tynion IV probably should have talked over their respective plans for their titles. In Batman, Tynion has Gotham in a panic state thanks to Scarecrow’s citywide invasion and the occupation of the Peacekeepers. It feels like bad communication for both Batman books to have separate citywide emergencies that neither is mentioning. In Batman, the Batfamily is en route to help Batman while they’re already on relief efforts here.
Vile is essentially Tamaki’s answer to Venom for Batman, before his redemption.

Viktor Bogdanovic returns as artist to finish the art. Bogdanovic’s style flows better over the course of multiple issues instead of fill-in duties so it was good to see him back if Dan Mora wasn’t set to return yet.
Bogdanovic draws Vile’s symbiotic parasite creepily enough and colorist Jordie Bellaire does her standard incredible work specifically with the detail and smaller color work given to the infected.
T.Rex writes and draws a backup story on Vile’s origin. It goes into greater depth in terms of his hunger for killing, but didn’t offer much else.
Tamaki wraps this arc, but the resolution isn’t satisfying as it sets the stage for a potentially ill-advised next run of stories.
