DC Comics reviews 7/13/21 – Infinite Frontier #2, Rorschach #10

Infinite Frontier #2

It almost feels weird now when a book delivers exactly what it promises. Infinite Frontier was hyped as an event that would start making sense of the Multiverse and so far, writer Joshua Williamson is making good on the hype and potential of the series.

There’s a lot a book of this magnitude with no rules — returning characters, including one long overdue resurrection and the ongoing threat of Darkseid — and fewer limitations can accomplish. It seems the only restraint is Williamson’s imagination and that hardly seems to be exhausted.

In this issue, Cameron Chase meets with Batman and Superman for greater insight on the Multiverse. Chase raises logical questions in the wake of the battle with Perpetua and The Batman Who Laughs. Roy Harper starts to make sense of his Black Lantern ring while President Superman and Thomas Wayne encounter a hostile from the Kingdom Come Earth.

Artists Paul Pelletier, Jesús Merino and Xermánico share responsibilities this issue. This trio all feature similar styles so the shifts from artist to artist aren’t too jarring. The shifting subplots allow for natural handoff points for the artists as well. Romulo Fajardo Jr. covers the coloring throughout allowing for some consistency with a bold and bright color palette.

There’s a lot to be excited about here and Williamson and company are building the foundation for a fun event. One that doesn’t stick to the usual approach of massive death and destruction to set up the threat. It’s a winning formula so far and Infinite Frontier has been an event that leaves me more excited with each passing issue.
