DC Comics reviews 7/13/21 – Infinite Frontier #2, Rorschach #10

The Flash Annual 2021 #1

Heroes in Crisis was the absolute worst thing to come about during the Rebirth era. It was an event designed for shock that accomplished nothing beyond killing off some decent, underrated characters and turning Wally West into a villain of sorts.

With The Flash Annual, writer Jeremy Adams attempts to reconcile that abysmal event with the terrific start to his Flash run.

For starters, Adams absolves Wally of any actual wrongdoing. Adams borrows a page from Geoff Johns with Hal Jordan/Parallax here and it works. There’s no need for one crappy editorial decision to ruin a hero’s legacy for good.

Adams has made the Blink of an Eye a truly unexpected treat as he’s celebrated so much of what’s made The Flash legacy so great. His familiarity with the history of The a flash suggests Adams could put together the next highly esteemed run on the title like Johns and Joshua Williamson before him. The villain Adams pulls for this final chapter is fitting and makes sense in the larger storyline.

Fernando Pasarin draws the bulk of the issue with Brandon Peterson handling the Barry Allen, Green Arrow and Mister Terrific sequences as normal. Pasarin is a big get for any book at this stage and I’m anxiously awaiting his next regular title. Peterson has been the glue of this run providing a stable visual foundation as the book featured multiple guest artists.

With this arc down, it’s a good time to be a Flash fan and for readers looking for a new title, this arc shows why Wally West has become synonymous with this character.
