DC Comics reviews 7/20-21 – Nightwing #82, The Flash #772

Jeremy Adams cracked the code too few DC writers realize these days — comic books can still be fun. While his Future State specials towed the seemingly company line of embracing doom and gloom, Adams has made The Flash one of the more consistently enjoyable DC books this side of Nightwing and Wonder Girl.

That didn’t stop now that Wally West is back in the proper timeline operating once again as The Flash. Adams keeps Mister Terrific around as a supporting cast member and utilizes him in a refreshing manner that fits the tone of the book. Wally reads like the Wally West before Flashpoint and Adams makes it a welcome return to form for one of the most beloved 90s DC heroes.

Will Conrad’s art packs as much appreciated detail and precise layouts as expected. Conrad might not be as creative in showing Flash’s powers in action, but his pages more than make up for it with the lifelike approach he gives the characters. Alex Sinclair’s colors are also stunning especially in showcasing the reds in Wally’s hair and costume.

Adams hasn’t squandered the use of the Rogues so this appearance of Heat Wave is welcome and sets up what should be a fun and challenging arc for The Flash.

This is an easy jump on point for new readers and longtime readers should find plenty to enjoy.
