Catwoman #33
With her allies wounded and on the run from the protestor lockdown by the Magistrate, Selina Kyle is running out of viable and worthwhile options to keep her community safe. Catwoman does find some unexpected help from an old colleague who’s been relatively low key since events in Detective Comics. This associate has a proposal for Catwoman along with some new potential allies all seeking their own shot at redemption.
It’s interesting how writer Ram V establishes a pretty reasonable set up for the Future State Detective Comics run. The big payoff this issue is Catwoman’s bloody rematch with Father Valley. After learning his identity in the Catwoman Annual, he’s an even more formidable adversary than originally revealed. Ram V has accomplished what’s been a serious challenge for Catwoman writers in the past and establishing a strong likely recurring villain for Selina.

Artist Fernando Blanco returns after missing a few issues. Blanco’s art is striking conveying the sense of desperation of the Gotham protestors, the sinister nature of Father Valley and positioning Selina in every frame as the focal point of this story. Jordie Bellaire’s color work has been on a level that few can approach for all of 2021.
Catwoman has not so quietly been one of DC’s strongest post-Future State and this issue retains the series’ high level of quality.
