Victoria Cartagena to reprise Renee Montoya role on Batwoman
I grew to become a pretty big fan of Gotham, but the first season was inconsistently shaky. The writers seemed a little confused about what they were doing and just randomly throwing Batman characters into the prequel series. One of those early first season victims was Victoria Cartagena, who played Renee Montoya.
In Gotham, Cartagena’s Renee had a brief fling with Barbara, before Barbara decided she wanted to get back with Jim Gordon. Montoya became a nonfactor as a character and Cartagena’s stint on the show was short-lived.
Now she’s getting a second chance to play Montoya on another Batman related show as a Season 3 regular on Batwoman. Here’s Renee’s character description according to Deadline:
Renee is a former GCPD officer who left the force when she could no longer stomach the corruption inside the department. She now runs the “freaks division,” which hasn’t seen a lot of action… until now. Righteous and pragmatic, and LGBTQ+, she’s a woman with a very personal (and mysterious) mission to help clean the streets of Gotham in the right way, by whatever means necessary.

Knowing Batwoman it won’t be long before Renee joins Javicia Leslie’s Ryan/Batwoman and Batwing in protecting the streets of Gotham as The Question.
What do you think of Montoya coming to Batwoman? Are you hoping the show follows the comic book and has Batwoman and Renee as a couple?
