The Flash Heart of the Matter Part 2 review S7 E18
Heart of the Matter Part 2 finally puts a merciful end to this season. And not an episode too soon. Actually maybe if we could have just skipped this one we all would have been better off.
Barry confronts August in his Speed Zone about what he wants. His face on the $1 bill? Australia? Nope, he wants organic speed to call his own. Way to set your sights low. You leave Barry’s alternate Earth potential future son out of this, August Hart!
Godspeed is really coming off like an underdeveloped awful main villain. You’ve gotta feel bad for poor Karan Oberoi who has to drastically overact to try and make Godspeed come off like a threat. Oberoi really needed 10 episodes to truly establish Godspeed as a character beyond a preening cliché villain and the writers did this entire civil war arc a disservice.
I’m seriously not a shipper, but I actually am rooting for Chester and Allegra. In just about every scene with Allegra, Chester acts far less like a cornball.
Barry calls in Speed Force Nova to give everyone a cheap power boost and magically heal Bart. That is incredibly lame. Why didn’t Barry think of that earlier? And what a cheat to actually beating Godspeed.

The chump looking Goodspeed stunt doubles fight through Central City and Kristen uses speed powers to save Joe from a Godspeed hand through chest finisher.
And now it’s time for a rematch with Team Flash including Iris, Super Nora and Jay. You know Internet dweebs are gonna lose their mind that Iris is back in costume again. If this prompts Candice Patton to unleash another 30 pictures on Instagram, I’m all for it.
I hate when the suddenly formidable villain becomes a mega chump in the season finale. It’s like why couldn’t Team Flash do that sooner? Yes, I get that they’re super charged, but that’s too easy. Wait, Nora Speed Force’s is supercharging the Godspeeds so it’s up to Allegra to save the day…for a moment.
That only stopped Godspeed temporarily. Flash has a new plan to win the war. They’re gonna give August the organic speed he wanted all along. This plan is terrible. Oh, my mistake calling in Thawne to help makes no sense.
And now we have a lightning saber battle? What in the world is happening?? This is actively making me mad. Thawne impales Godspeed (but doesn’t kill him) because that’s what Barry’s worst enemy should do. Barry suggests Thawne walk away. WHAT? This is the same guy who killed Barry’s mother and he likes, “nah, you’re good. I’ll catch you on the flip side.” It was pretty awful when Barry let Abra Kadabra go, but this was so much worse.
With Godspeed in custody at Iron Heights, Team Flash can reflect on their big win. Barry knew he could trust Thawne since he wouldn’t let anyone else kill him. Wow. That is some logic. While he’s on a roll, Barry asks Iris to renew their vows. This was a smart decision.
Kristen’s meta test came back positive. Turns out she can mimic the powers of any meta close by. But now she’s seen the error of her ways and is leaving. Does this mean Joe has his job back?
The vow renewal goes just fine until Bart sings to make it corny. At least Barry and Iris get a wedding without the Arrow destroyer of worlds crashing the ceremony and deciding to get married with them.
Godspeed had a perfectly crappy arc and between the lightning sabers and singing Bart, this episode was a perfectly fitting way to wrap a lousy season.
