Marvel Legends Baron Zemo review – BAF Captain America Flight gear wave

Baron Zemo is one of the best villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s got a presence and his role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier only confirmed that the good Baron should remain a key figure as Phase 4 plays out. After missing the lineup through various Civil War waves, Baron Zemo gets his first MCU Marvel Legends figure.

Hasbro has been strongly in sync with Marvel Studios for this year’s Disney+ wave and I was excited about adding this fallen hero to my MCU display. Let’s see if he’s worthy of saluting.

Packaging: One of the sharper aspects of this wave is the prominent logo of the respective Disney+ series represented. In this case, it’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The package art features a great image of Zemo fully masked up. I like the bio as it reflects more of the style of the Star Wars Black Series line with an in the moment look at the character and a tease of what’s in store.

Likeness: Hasbro knocked out Daniel Bruhl’s likeness. It’s funny to think back to 2014 when Hasbro really started trying to get the actor likenesses down and coming up significantly short. Now the likeness is dead on for this scale right down to the mole under Bruhl’s chin.

This figure is based on Zemo’s attire for most of the show with the trench coat with furry collar, magenta shirt and black pants. It’s not the most exciting costume, but Zemo is still in his transition into super villain territory.

At least he’s got some interesting looking gloves. The sculpting on all aspects from the fur texturing, the panel arrangement of the coat, the lining of the shirt right down to the length of the pants and shoes is very well done.

MORE:

Paint: Zemo’s paintwork is nice and clean. There’s just a little smudge of white from the fur collar creeping over onto the jacket. The silver belt buckle has a nice metallic sheen while the more complex gloves are handled with precision.

Hasbro could have added a light stubble since Zemo was in prison and not really caring about being clean shaven.

marvel legends baron zemo review - scale with captain america and us agent

Scale: Baron Zemo should be about the same height as Captain America/The Falcon and shorter than Bucky. I’ll line them up properly once I get the title characters in my collection.

Articulation: Zemo is more of a shooter and less a fisticuff fighter. We haven’t seen his prowess with a sword yet, but hopefully we’ll see that in future appearances in the MCU.

In terms of movement, Zemo can be posed easily enough in a myriad of poses even with the trench coat.

Accessories: Zemo has a healthy amount of accessories. He’s got a gold pistol. It’s flat plastic sheen gives it the toy appearance.

Maybe a little grime and a darker wash would make it look better?

He also comes with the book with the words to control Bucky. That’s a nice nod to the Civil War storyline.

He’s also got a swappable set of fists. My favorite accessory is the comic homage ski mask. The mask is very well sculpted with the eye holes set deep enough to sell the sense that this is a mask Zemo wears over his face.

Finally, Zemo come with the outer right wing of the Build-A-Figure Captain America flight gear.

Worth it?  Wal-Mart had a mini-clearance sale on members of this wave so I got Zemo for $15. Anytime you can get Marvel Legends for under $20, especially with the new price hike that’s a good thing.

Rating: 9 out of 10

This is an exceptional take on one of the MCU’s best villains with a fantastic likeness and good amount of accessories. Paired with a cheaper than usual retail price and this is an easy recommendation.
