Mister Miracle The Source of Freedom #5

Given the quality of this series so far, Shilo Norman’s adventures probably don’t need to end with the final issue of this mini-series. That’s been the common theme after each issue, but with only one more installment slated next month, it’s time to rally for this to become an ongoing title.

Writer Brandon Easton takes Shilo and Oberon to New Genesis just as Orion is battling some of Nvir’s forces. Easton introduces a new wrinkle with Orion having a deep history with Shilo, who’s meeting him for the first time.

Oberon is willingly keeping the details of Shilo’s trek through the timestream a mystery and this is opening up another story arc for Easton to explore. Nvir still has potential as a villain or maybe a hero depending on how Easton decides to play it. And of course there’s the larger picture of Shilo interacting with the other New Gods.

Fico Ossio has such a cool style of drawing that brings so much life and energy to the pages. With an action packed issue, Ossio gets to cut loose and deliver some exciting battle sequences. Rico Renzi’s colors pop off the pages with rich greens, reds and yellows.

There’s too much story left to wrap it all in one issue so hopefully DC already has this creative team working on the sequel or an ongoing book to keep Shilo in the monthly rotation.
