DC Comics reviews 10/26/21 – DC vs Vampires #1, Checkmate #5
Wonder Girl #4
Joelle Jones might be DC’s most important creator right now.
Wonder Girl continued to be a standout can’t miss title on the strength of Jones’ writing and art. That’s been the case since DC started Future State and hasn’t stopped yet.
In this issue, Yara Flor makes major strides in her attempt to become Hera’s champion.
Jones’ gorgeous artwork is amazing showing various montages of Yara’s training and the gods.
Yara has so much personality on ever page Jones draws and she has instantly felt like the freshest most original character to come out of DC in years.
Adriana Melo also contributes artwork in the section where Yara returns to Brazil and encounters Wonder Girl and Artemis. Melo’s art is strong and engaging although it’d be easier to appreciate on its own.
Jordie Bellaire’s colors are equally stunning with mesmerizing lighting choices.
Wonder Girl has proven to be an exceptional title with an organic way to showcase a new hero.
It continues to be one of DC’s best books each month.
