It’s felt like Teen Titans Academy was on an extended break, but writer Tim Sheridan and artist Rafa Sandoval are back to wrap the Gorilla Grodd arc.

Gorilla Gregg is trying to keep his teammates clear of Grodd’s influence as the villainous ape plays out a new scheme to control humanity’s minds. Sheridan beats readers to the punch with a meta reference of this being a lame scheme. The real conflict is Gregg vs Grodd. Sheridan somewhat misses the mark by pitting the young Gregg against his wily, far more experienced uncle without the aid of his teammates. The Titans vs. Grodd seems like more of a fair fight, but it never feels like Gregg should get the upper hand.

Sandoval’s art is somewhat confusing this issue as there’s not enough distinction between Grodd and Gregg. Grodd has lightning bolts on his chest, but in some panels those are obscured so it’s harder to identify who is speaking.

Sheridan wisely doesn’t stretch this storyline out for too long and hastily explains how Grodd could be so easily defeated.
This was an OK issue of TTA, but it wasn’t the best payoff for an intriguing storyline.
