Wonder Woman #781
Becky Cloonan and Michael W. Conrad kick off a new arc as Diana continues getting readjusted to life among the living. Cloonan and Conrad tease Dr. Psycho operating behind the scenes as a troll of sorts bashing Wonder Woman to an anti-feminist audience.
That’s clever, but Cloonan and Conrad have Diana act overly aggressive in facing him, to some extent sparking their latest conflict. That’s not the only time Diana acts somewhat out of character this issue as she asks a character to lie for her, which dramatically goes against the baseline of Wonder Woman.
Beyond Dr. Psycho, Diana recruits Deadman to help her restore Siegfried’s sword to his grave. The journey barely gets starts before she starts hallucinating and Steve Trevor faces a nightmarish version of Wonder Woman.
Artist Marcio Takara has a rougher style than some Wonder Woman artist, but it largely works save the disjointed Steve vs Nightmare Wonder Woman sequence.
This new arc has potential especially if those random out of character moments are explained and the action ramps up.
