Undiscovered Country #17

undiscovered-country #17

Ace and the others are this close to creating Ace’s masterpiece when the devil comes in with a deal that sounds far too good to be true.

The devil makes a convincing pitch about how the group can use this platform to stop being on the run zooming from one zone to another. Barely surviving the unknown as they continue forward. But it is the devil making the pitch…

Ace and Valentina get the flashback sequences this issue as writers Charles Soule and Scott Snyder devote time to the dichotomy of the storyteller and the fact-finder. They’re a nice contrast in perspectives and one that comes full circle in the present with the devil’s offer.

Artists Giuseppe Camuncoli and Leonardo Marcello Grassi continue their engaging work with strong detail showing the scope of this zone and intimate close ups that keeps the focus on the characters.

The one distracting element was Ace not bothering to wipe away the nosebleed he gets at the beginning of the issue. That’s a weird thing for a person to ignore.

Matt Wilson’s color work is sharp with a unique blending of the various red, whites and blues of this zone.

Soule and Snyder pack a nice twist cliffhanger that teases a memorable conclusion to this arc in the most unexpected manner possible. Undiscovered Country continues to deliver with its original tale that keeps finding new ways to surprise.
